The Itinerary

Day 1: Depart For Beijing

Depart Manchester (or your regional airport) for Beijing.

Day 2: Arrive in Beijing

Arrive at Beijing Capital Airport, where you will be greeted by your local representative and transferred to your hotel. On the way, there will be opportunities
to stop for photos at Beijing National Stadium, nicknamed the “Bird’s Nest” due to its complex steel design. In the evening you will enjoy dinner at the tour introduction, where you will have the chance to meet your fellow travellers.

Day 3: Beijing

After Breakfast, visit Tiananmen Square, which translates to “Gate of Heavenly Peace” and the Forbidden City – the former Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, and now a museum. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, an imperial complex of religious buildings where you may have the chance to watch or participate in a dance class.

Day 4: Beijing

Today, you’ll travel to Badaling to see the Great Wall – a must see on any trip to China. This is the best preserved and most complete section with approximately 2.3 miles open to visitors. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a tour of the Summer Palace where you can stroll around ancient pavilions and mansions, stopping occasionally at a shop or tea house.

Day 5: Beijing To Xi’An

After Breakfast, take the morning train to Xi’an. On arrival, visit the beautiful square in front of the the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty for the study of Buddhist scriptures. Check into your hotel, then enjoy the afternoon at your leisure – we recommend exploring the streets of the Muslim Quarter and the Beiyuanmen Night Market.

Day 6: Xi'an

Travel to Linton Country to visit the Terracotta Warriors and Chariots,; an entire army constructed to protect China’s first emperor. You will visit a Terracotta Warrior reproduction factory to gain an insight into how these sculptures are made. In the afternoon, visit Xi’an’s beautifully preserved City Wall. In the evening, enjoy a famous Tang Dynasty theatre show and dinner.

Day 7: Xi'An to Guilin

Take the morning flight to Guilin, later visiting the Reed Flute Cave.

Day 8: Li River

Today, relax as we cruise along the Li River, sailing past the dramatic limestone karsts and exquisite paddy fields to the charming town of Yangshuo, where you will have time to explore the local markets. We travel back to Guilin by coach later in
the day.

Day 9: Guilin To Chengdu

Today we fly to Chengdu; upon arrival we take a tour to Jinli Old Street, an ancient pedestrian street lined with buildings from the Qing Dynasty occupied by food and
gift vendors. Visit a traditional tea house in a park, followed by the Sichuan Opera in the evening- famous for the “changing faces’ ancient Chinese dramatic art, where performers wear brightly coloured costumes whilst moving to dramatic music.

Day 10: Chengdu

Visit the Giant Panda Breeding Centre, the world’s largest Panda sanctuary founded in 1987. Later, we visit the Qingyanggong Taoist Temple; a sprawling centre of Taoist studies with a very active community of Monks, Chinese Traditional Medicine Doctor’s Tai Chi Classes.

Day 11: Chengdu to Chongqing

Embark on the morning train to Chongqing, followed by a city tour before boarding the Yangtze River Cruise ship in the evening.

Day 12-13: Yangtze River Cruise

Relax and enjoy some of the world’s most dramatic scenery as the cruise sails downstream through the Three Gorges. You will have the option to take shore excursions to Shibaozhai and White Emperor City.

Day 14: Yichang to Shanghai

Disembark the cruise in Yichang, and transfer to the airport to fly to Shanghai.

Day 15: Shanghai

This morning we visit the People’s Square, the Bund and Yu Yuan Garden – home to classical Chinese architecture and exquisite sculptures and carvings. Following this, visit the busy Yu Yuan bazaar, nine turns bridges and Xixtiandi & old town areas.

Day 16: Shanghai

Enjoy some free time in Shanghai before transferring to the airport for your flight
home or onwards to your tour extension destination.

Extend Your Holiday

Make your holiday last longer by extending your trip – either to one of our suggested destinations, or one of your choice. We suggest either keeping the momentum going with an additional 3 nights in Hong Kong, or spending 7 nights relaxing on the beaches of Sanya.
